MED Occupational Licensing

Picture

The MED Occupational License allows the holder to work within MED licensed Medical and Retail Marijuana facilities or for vendors that provide services to MED Medical and Retail Marijuana business licensees.

There are two types of MED Occupational Licenses:
  • Key Employee: employees that make operational or management decisions that directly impact the business.  An example of such an employee is a master grower that determines what or how much of a particular strain to produce.
    • Application fee $250
  • Support Employee: employees that work in the business but do not make operational decisions.  An example of such an employee would be a budtender - the majority of occupational license holders are in this category.
    • Application fee $75
  • Upgrade: your Support Occupational License to a Key Occupational License you must complete a new occupational license application.  Then make an appointment at one of the MED offices listed below to come and submit your application. Please note that you cannot upgrade your license with an occupational license renewal application, you must submit a new occupational license application.  Be Aware that you MUST bring in your current Support Occupational License for surrender.
    • You have two options in regard to paying for the upgrade of your license – you may pay to upgrade your current Support license and keep your current expiration date ($203.65) or you may pay the full Key occupational license application fee ($250.00) and receive a new expiration date two years from the new issue date - if your application is approved.

  • Be on time!
  • Bring a hard copy of your completed application, printed singled sided.  Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Any supporting documentation to prove you are eligible for this license (for example, official documentation of the final disposition regarding any felony conviction)
  • A Colorado Drivers License or Identification Card (ID)
  • The full application fee in cash -exact change only, money order, credit card or check (no third-party checks) - the MED Lakewood office is the only MED office able to accept cash payments.
Once your application has been accepted and you pass the background check, your badge will be mailed to their home address of record - usually within three to four working days.
You are required to have submitted all necessary “disposition” documentation of any felony arrest/case with your application.
Disposition generally means the final outcome of the case.  For example, if you were convicted of a felony and sentenced to five years of probation you must submit documentation that you have successfully completed your probation requirements – this documentation must include the date on which probation was complete.  Another example is if the case was dismissed, in this instance, you must provide the MED with documentation that the case was dismissed.
Disposition documents can be obtained from the court where the case was filed and/or the disposition was issued.
Occupational Support and Key Licenses must be renewed every two years - the expiration date is printed on the Occupational License Badge and the renewal fee is $75.00.
Note that this is NOT for the Colorado Medical Marijuana Patient Registry System.
We recommend that you submit your renewal application at least 30 DAYS PRIOR TO EXPIRATION OF YOUR CURRENT LICENSE. If your badge expires prior to receipt of your renewal application, you must begin the process again - this requires that you come into a MED office and apply for a NEW occupational license.  Please note that renewal applications cannot be processed sooner than 60 from the expiration date of your current license.
In order to renew your Occupational License:
  • Download an Occupational License Renewal Application
  • Please Print the Application Single-Sided Only
  • Complete the application and collect all necessary supporting documents - including a copy of your Valid Colorado ID or Driver License
  • Only current application forms will be accepted and the applicant's signature MUST be NOTARIZED prior to submission to the MED!
  • Your renewal application packet must include the full renewal fee ($75)
Occupational licensee may now submit their renewals online!  Just ensure you have the necessary information collected (see bullet list above) and click on this e-government link to submit your application.  A credit card* is necessary and applications can only be accepted within 60 of your badge expiration date.  Of course, submissions will not be accepted once your badge expiration date has passed.

Your renewal packet can be submitted in person or mailed to the Lakewood Office (note that incorrect payments MUST be picked up at the Lakewood office, they CANNOT be mailed back to the sender:
